through Creative Counselling

Welcome and thank you for visiting my website. I am an arts therapist located at the foot of Mt Cooroora in Pomona, in the Noosa Hinterland. I offer creative processes to explore feelings, increase self-awareness, develop resilience and to find a way for dealing with uncertainty or the unknown. There's absolutely no previous art experience or skill needed.

Feel invited to come to my Studio at Pomona, in the Noosa Hinterland to play with paint, collage, clay, or movement and find yourself just BEing in the moment -

or connect with me online.

be your own best story

"How could creative processes possibly help in this unbearable situation I am in?” you might think. In my approach, it’s not just about relaxing or taking our mind off issues.

Using the artworks we create in a session, we can have a conversation with our conscious and unconscious mind, body and spirit. We can dialogue with the artwork, approach it mindfully or identify inner selves that want to be acknowledged and healed.

My work is informed by mindfulness, internal family systems and polyvagal theory as well as focusing-oriented, humanistic and existential approaches to art therapy.

I’ll meet you in my studio in Pomona - or online. We’ll start the session by talking about your situation and the issues you are facing or want to change. I'll then invite you to express these in colour, line, shape, gesture, movement, or collage.

You don't need artistic skills or training. It's not about technique but the process of trusting your body and senses to let your unconscious and conscious mind externalise what needs to be addressed in that particular session.

I am offering a safe space where people who work with me are acknowledged in their lived and living experience and respected as the experts in their own life. We will take the time to explore together what emerges in the session with curiosity and compassion. We will focus on the creative process itself - not the product - and you get to choose the materials or modalities that work best for you. Together we'll create a moment of presence that will be the ground from which insights can grow.

My specific aim is to hold a safe space for you, just listening with empathy. I also believe that thoughts, images, feelings and sensations that come up in us can often be complex and contradictory. You might have heard yourself saying something like "One part in me wants to do x and another part can't be bothered to get up....". For this I offer creative parts work, where we can be curious about what is going on for these parts of yourself. This can help you to navigate between them towards finding your Self.

“My experience indicates that emotions do not follow the same logic that applies to fixing problems in other areas. I have learned repeatedly that the maxim 'trust the process' always offers the best operational advice."

Adults in general:

Let's work together if

  • you are experiencing anger, anxiety, sadness, depression or other emotional stress;

  • you want to increase your emotional resilience or seek transformation and change; and/or

  • you would enjoy exploring the creativity that we all have within ourselves to help you heal and grow.

Mental Health Carers:

I have a particular interest in working with people who are caring for - or about - a relative, friend or kin who is experiencing mental health or addiction challenges. I have lived experience of having supported a family member over the last 10 years in their self-directed and beautiful recovery journey, and I would like to pass on what I have learned.

I am also a member of ARAFMI, the peak Mental Health Carer Support organisation in Queensland, and am passionate about working with mental health carers and their lived experience.

Arts therapy (including parts work) can be used in conjunction with other healing and counselling modalities. I would be happy to explore with you what it is that you specifically could get out of it.

Please don't hesitate to give me a call for a free initial consultation on 0422 548 056 - or send me an email: ATCelineRoth@gmail.com.

Fees:

As Arts Therapy is not supported by Medicare or private insurance, I keep my fees under $100 (1 hr $70; 1.5 hrs $90) which equals a gap payment for other mental health services. Being a semi-retired professional, I want to help as many people as I can and give back to the community in this way.

I am passionate about working with people to create better outcomes for them and for the world in general. I hold a Masters of Therapeutic Arts Practice from the Melbourne Institute of Experiential and Creative Arts Therapy - MIECAT.   I also have trained and practised as a Voice Dialogue facilitator and have extensive experience in volunteering as a Lifeline Telephone Supporter. In a 'previous life', I worked in Human Resource Management and as Environmental Specialist in various roles in Government and Industry.

I am registered as a professional member with ANZACATA , the peak professional association for Creative Arts Therapies in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

My Values and Purpose

I believe that if we want to live better lives, and to reduce mental health and addiction issues, it is vital that we improve how we create and live our relationships. To do this, we need to refine our communication skills and self-awareness - and what better way to do this than in a creative and fun process!

I see my purpose in empowering people to

  • listen to and love themselves,

  • slow down and be in the present moment with curiosity,

  • be open for what emerges in a non-judgemental and safe space, and to

  • travel towards personal growth and fulfilment.
